I am a writer and am interested in local history - as such I've come across the name of Thomas Rhodes as he was an early court clerk here for Carroll County, Miss. As to what HAPPENED TO him ... lately, that question has arisen and I'm interested in what I can find on this issue. I understand he left a widow and children, though, and may have left this Earth around 1840 or so.

The following is from the book entitled: The William and Mary quarterly, Volume 20
Authors Lyon Gardiner Tyler, Earl Gregg Swem, Richard Lee Morton, Institute of Early American History and Culture (Williamsburg, Va.), College of William and Mary, JSTOR (Organization) Publisher Institute of Early American History and Culture., 1912 William Smith, of Louisa County, married Mary Rhodes. He was son of John Smith, of Louisa Co.," Va., and Mary Crawford. William Smith emigrated to Kentucky, where he became very wealthy and was known as "Gold Mine Billy Smith," and his descendants were noted for their good looks and refinement. Information desired in regard to the ancestry of William Smith and his wife Mary RhodesMrs. Lister Witherspoon, Versailles, Kentucky. The register of St. James Northam Parish, Goochland County, shows that William Smith and Mary Rhodes had issue, Clifton Rhodes, born April 12, 1784. Mary Rhodes, wife of William Smith, was probably a daughter of Clifton Rhodes, son of John Rhodes (born 1697, died 1774) of Albemarle. A careful personal study of the records at Louisa Court House might give some information as to William Smith, of Louisa. Show Comments (1)

I am looking for Faithy Rhodes Holbert Griffith. She was married to Marville Holbert first and then Greenberry Griffith (Griffin) in NC. Greenberry (G.B.) was my gr-gr grandfather and Faithy was my gr-gr grandmother. I have info for Greenberry and he is buried in our family cemetery in Saltillo, TX along with his second wife Frances but I do not know where Faithy is buried and not sure who her parents were. Any help would be appreciated. She would have been born around 1795 or a little later.

Hi everyone!
I am looking for ancestors from Pennsylvania. My great-grandmother's maiden name was Mildred Elizabeth Rhoades. She was born in PA in 1905 and died in 2000 in Warsaw, IN. From what I have been able to get from the censuses, her father was Harry E. Rhoads (born abt. 1883), and her mother's name was Rheba (born abt. 1885), both born in PA. Harry died between the 1910 and 1920 census. I think that Harry's parents were named Lewis and Emma Rhoads. From there I don't know anymore. I was hoping to see if they linked up to any of the entries here on the website, but haven't had much luck searching. Any information or help would be great! Thanks! |
