Entered railway service 1869, since which he has been consecutively to 1873, assistant engineer Toledo & Ann Arbor Rd, division engineer Ft. Wayne & Jackson Rd. division engineer Detroit Lansing & Northern Rd, and locating and division engineer Detroit & Bay City; fail of 1873 to Aug. 1876, engineer Chicago & Atlantic Rd; Aug. 1876 to May 1879, in charge of construction one division Bellaire & Southwestern Rd, a part of which time principal engineer of that road; May 1879 to April 1886, on Atchison Topeka & Santu Fe Rd, in following positions successively; in charge of construction of a branch in Kansas, assistant engineer of track, bridges und buildings, roadmaster, resident engineer, superintendent western division, und engineer entire system; April 1. 1886, appointed chief engineer Kingmun Pratt & Western Rd and in Jan. 1888, in addition to his duties as chief engineer, was appointed superintendent same road and Wichita & Western Rd at Wichita, Kansas, which position he held until Aug. 1. 1890; Aug. 1. 1890 to Oct. 10 1894, superintendent Panhandle division Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Rd; Oct. 10, 1894 to Feb. 1896, general foreman of roadway Wichita & Western Rd; Feb. 1896 to 1900, successively superintendent same road and assistant engineer Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Ry.
