He married Hanneh Rhodes, a cousin, who was a daughter of Joseph and Mary (Mead) Rhodes, about 1770 in Bedford Co., Va. . Several of their ten children were born there during the years he dealt extenisively in real estate. "His lands lay on Goose Creek, or its tributaries in Bedford Co.". Of these, 1600 acres had been bought from his brother, William, for 16,000 pounds of tobacco. was one of Henry Scalf's comments in "TEK". Robert Mead sold part or all of his vast acreage and moved to Floyd Co.,Ky. in 1801. Robert & Hannah had a large family during the 30 years they lived in Bedford Co.. Tradition says that Robert brought slaves to Mud Creek to help him prepare his plantation for his family. The first mention of him in Floyd Co. Court orders was in May, 1810. He was appointed as surveyor of a road from Grahams Shoals to the Gap Of Mud. The following persons, who evidently lived along the way, were ordered to assist him: Ichabod McBrayer, Robert Mead, Jr., Jacob Slusher, Rhodes Mead (another son), christopher Toler (for whom Toler Creek is named and who married Edy, Robert Mead Seniors daughter.), Robert Toler and John Casebolt. (information from TEK) Robert & Hannah Mead lived, died and were buried in Floyd Co., Ky.. He died intestate in the early part of 1825. Notes for JACOB M. WEDDINGTON: [Weddington Nov 2002.FTW]
The Kings of Amarugia, Printed by The Cass County Democrat, Nov. 24, 1944. A year prior to the foregoing history, The Cass Co. Times, established at Harrisonville in Sept., 1896, by John Wooldridge, published a story about the kings of Amarugia. "Amarugia," is a neighborhood located between the south prong of Grand River & Owens Creek, in this county (in Everett Township,). That neighborhood has not heard of Amaruga and Amarugia's kings. There have been several of them. W.W. Brock of that kingdon was in the Times office this week and gave us some written and unwritten history of the kings, their adminstrations, their peculiarities, and eccentricities. Tom Bundy was one of the first who wore the kings crown of Amarugia. He was the king, the Lord high executioner, and Lord high everything else for years. He was a stern ruler, yet just in all his official acts and exercised a great influnce over his subjects, in political matters especially. He finally moved away from that neighborhood and appointed Jacob Weddington to fill his place.
"Was Too Bald-Headed." Weddington was baldheaded and the people concluded, after a serious consultation, that a man who was baldheaded could not serve as king unless he would submit to having the crown glued to his hairless pate. Weddington refused and therfore sacrificed the honors of a kingship for personal comfort. David Wilson, cromwell like declared himself king and ruled supreme and unmolested for years. He finally got into some serious trouble with some of his female subjects and came near being beheaded by the male population. He gave up the crown and left. Jake Weddington was then again called to take the crown, when he consented to do providing he could wear it without it being gluded on. He is one of the oldest settlers (as of 1897,) in that famous kingdom and is highly respected by all of his subjects. He is almost blind but is full of fun and is looking at the bright and humorous side of life. Saturday is court day. The King is both judge and jury, and from that court there is no appeal. At nine oclock every Sat. morning court is opened and the mill of justice begins to grind. No one is seldom fined more than a few pumkins, a gallon or two of good cider, or a few twists of tobacco. Elias Owens, well known to the people of this county, in and out of all courts, is the attorney-general. Recently the kingdom has been extended to take in Everett, which is now the capital - in fact, the first capital Amarugia ever had. Most people who are not acquainted with the inhabitants there are of the opinion that it is a "tough," place, but that is a mistake, Ararugians are hospitable, law abiding and fun loving. Hearts grow there about twice as large as in any other place in Missouri.
Basy Owens, of the "Big Sandy " region of Ky. explored the region for the Hudson Bay Fur Co., looking for a location to build a trading post. This is probably how Jacob Weddington heard about this area, since they were from the same area in Ky..
