Thomas Wood Rhodes. York & Lancaster Regiment 12th
Bn. Lance Corporal 12/489 Aged 23 Thiepval, Somme, France. 01-Jul 1916 Son
of Albert Edward and Emily Rhodes, of Benty Holme, Oughtibridge,
Sheffield. Born at Bradfield, Enlisted in Sheffield. Thomas Rhodes was one
of the original recruits to the Sheffield City Battalion or 'Sheffield
Pals'- formally known as the 12th (Service) Battalion, York & Lancs. He
was a member of 'B' Company and died during the Battalion's attack at
Serre on the first day of the Somme.
