HOLDEN RHODES, son of Anthony and Betsey (Armington) Rhodes. Born in Middlebury, Vt., Jan. 15,1797. Tutor in Middlebury College, 1817. Studied law with Samuel Taylor, Manchester, Va., and practiced law there. Attorney for the Commonwealth for the Circuit Court of Powhatan County, Va., many years. He attained prominence at the bar of Virginia, particularly as a chancery lawyer. Married (1) Ann Eliza (Cunliff) Heth, May, 1833. Married (2) Susan Randolph (Webster) Cunliff, Nov. 20, 1849. A. b: Died at " Boscobel", his estate of two thousand acres, near Richmond, Va., March, 1857.
