- He received from his father his Narragansett lands, and appears to have been in Narragansett as early as March 8, 1656, when he witnesses, as interpreter, a deed from Sachem Coginaquand to Richard Smith of land at Potomcasutt. On June 1662 he, age about 22 years, testified regarding this deed. On July3, 1663 he, as an inhabitant and proprietor of lands in Narragansett, petitioned to be under the jurisdiction of Connecticut. On May 4, 1668 he was one of the inhabitants of Wickford RI, who petitioned Connecticut to reassume authority over the Narragansett country; otherwise they might seek protection elsewhere. On May 20, 1671 he abandoned his allegiance to Connecticut and took an oath of allegiance to Rhode Island, as an inhabitant of Acquedneset, and on May 6, 1673 he was a freeman of that colony. In February 1676 he and his wife Hannah conveyed to his brother Thomas the house and all the land in Portsmouth that he had received from his father's estate. He died shortly afterwards and in Feb. 1677 administration on his estate was granted to his widow Hannah by the Portsmouth Town Council.
2. Samuel Waite was born 1640 at Portsmouth, RI. (IEL) He was the son of Thomas Waite and Eleanor ___________. Samuel died 2 Feb 1676/1677 at Rhode Island (IEL) at the age of 36. "Samuel received his father's lands in Narragansett and seems to have been there as Early as 8 Mar 1656 when he witnesses an as interpreter, a deed from the Sachem Coinaquand to Richard Smith of land at Potomovassett. On 23 Jun 1662, he, aged about 22 years testified regarding this deed. He again deposed 26 Feb 1667 aged about 27 years. 23 Jul 1663 he was one of the inhabitants and proprietors of lands in Narragansett who petitioned to be under the jurisdiction of Connecticut. On 4 May 1663 he was one of the inhabitants of Wickford, Rhode Island who petitioned Connecticut to reassume authority over Narragansett county otherwise they might seek protection elsewhere. Samuel was made a Freeman 6 May 1673. On 20 May 1671 he abandoned allegiance to Connecticut and took the Oath of Allegiance to RI. He was an inhabitant of Acquedneset. On 21 Jan 1675 Samuel wrote; 2. Samuel Waite was born 1640 at Portsmouth, RI. (IEL) He was the son of Thomas Waite and Eleanor ___________. On 21 Jan 1675 Samuel wrote;
'Bee it known unto all whom it may Concerne That I Samuel Waite Do by these presents acknowledge my Selfe to owe and Stand justly Indebted unto the councill of the Towne of Portsmouth on Rhode Island or unto their successors the full and just sum of 350 pounds to be levied and Execute on my Lands, Goods, Cattell or Chattells to the performance whereof I Binde my Selfe my heirs, Executors and Administrators - Witness my hand and seale the 21 of January 1675. The conditions of the above written obligation is such That whereas Thomas Waite, father of the said Samuel Waite; deceased intestate; whereupon the Councill of the Towne of Portsmouth in the year 1669 ordered the Disposall of his estate according to Law therein, Impowering Ellin, widow of the said Thomas, Executrix during her life, and after her decease that power to descend unto the above Samuel, who now being by the decease of his said Mother Ellin, Executor to the estate of his deceased Father; That if the above named and Bounden Samuel Waite shall truly and faithfully performe the trust and poser of an Executor and truly Administer on the estate of his said Deceased father and mother in the true and faithfull performance of the aforesaid acts of councill made in the aforesaid years 1669 in and concerning the premises, Then the above written obligation to be voyd and non-effect, otherwise to stand in full force and vertue.' 11 Feb 1676 he and Hannah conveyed to his brother Thomas the house and all the land in Portsmouth received from his fathers estate. His estate was administered in Feb 1677 by his wife Hannah. In the pamphlet on this family by J.C. Waite note that the transfers of land for this Samuel have been confused with those of Samuel sone of Samuel." (EWT) He married Hannah WHITMAN 1659/1660 probably at Portsmouth, RI. She was born after 1644, Portsmouth, Newport, RI. (IEL) Hannah was probably a sister of Valentine WHITMAN of Providence. (EWT). Hannah also married (2) James SAMPSON by 2 Oct 1694 (EWT) the son of Henry SAMPSON of the Mayflower.
