Scurff Hall Farm,Drax is the sight of a roman Villa an account of the Archaeological excavations is covered in a report by Kenneth Wilson, it is felt that the original Scurff Hall was built in late 14th century, using cut stone from the Roman site as was the Drax Church. Scurff Hall originally had a inner moat that was followed within a short time with a outer moat. the rigg and furrows were formed between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries. it was in the eighteenth century that the farm buildings and the present hall was built.
This follows the genealogical line William 1767-1832 was first to be recorded at Scurff Hall however the two proceeding generations left land by will to each of there children, and appear to have been land holders from late 1600's
