we know that her son george had 1/2 brother named john smith.
Alburgh vital records, DeClancy Stoughton married 2nd ,15 jan 1850 Mrs Mehitable Scutt.
the census record 1850 Alburgh, taken aug-sep 1850 list the following
# 365 DeClancy Stoughton age 66 born mass farmer
Delancy Stoughton Jr. age 41 born vt, sailor
Gustavus C. Stoughton age 31 born vt. Farmer

# 369Mehitable Stoughton age 50 born vt.
Emiline Stoughton age 12 born vt.
George Scutt age 20 born vt. sailor
Reynolds Scutt age 16 Sailor
the later marriage to DeClancey is strange in deed i had not listed it before but since Diane Lee Struyk posted it on Roots Message board i feel it should be included George Scutt my ancestor married mehitable about 1829 we do not know her maiden name but some were along the line george scutt picked up a half brother john smith so maybe she was a smith.and had john out of wed lock or previous marriage
with george she had george scutt bn 21 mar 1830 alburgh vt. she also had Reynold bn 1834.and emiline born 1838 but listed as stoughton.
one of the many stories related by Berlin Olyer was that of George Scutt consumed to much poisen laced apple pie and died 12 feb 1839.
1850 Census
living with mehitable age 50 was son george Scutt age 20 a sailor, son Reynold Scutt age 16 sailor,
and a daughter Emiline stoughton age 12 bn vt.why is she not living with her father ? could make a mystery of this, could her birth be related to georges pre mature death
with all of this it would appear her maiden name is probable smith she was about 29 yrs old when she married george scutt who was 17.
she is listed as mehetible scutt when she married declancey--it would appear her name was somthing other than stoughton when she married geo. scutt. The marriage is not found yet but it must have been recorded somewere as she is called Scutt when she married Declancey
