Augustus was a Major in the Mexican War. He lived at Be n t Mountain near Athens, WV., and was for 24 years a Justi c e of the Peace in Mercer County. He remained loyal to t h e Union during the Civil War. (The Caperton Family; Berna r d M. Caperton; 1973; p. 33-34)
