MILITARY: In Company H. of the 180th Infantry Regiment Homer C.Rhodes, Eufaula Oklahoma was a gunner on a light machine gun, and sawthe members of his squad, one by one become casualties. Withouthesitiation he took over the duties of assistant gunner and ammunitionbearer for another gun in addition to his own duties. Disregarding theheavy German mortar barrages which were falling, he remained with hisgun. When his gun became to hot to use, he made a trip across theopen ground to get another one. He fired so much that his ammunitionwas exhausted and went to get more, not only for himself, but also forother gunners.
