Mary A. McBride was born in Corunna MI on April 14, 1846. She was the second wife of James Peters Rhodes. The family moved, in 1888-89, to Phoenix because of her health. She died two years later of consumption (tuberculosis). According to her son, Albert, Mary didn't share her husband's love of the desert, and was very homesick for her family and Michigan. Also according to Albert, Mary always looked for the best in a person, and, "never said an unkind word about anyone." She died in Phoenix on March 4, 1891, a month before her 45th birthday.
