They lived in Granville Co.N.C.; but got "GOLD FEVER" So the entire family loaded there goods in covered wagons and headed to Cal. They joined others in Ken. & Tenn. They spent the winter on the Miss. river in Memphis, Tenn. When the winter was over they returned to N.C. John purchased 925 acres from Paul Cameron (One of the Cameron plantations located on North Flat River.) They lived there the rest of their lives. In 1857 he and others built a church at Cross Roads, Person Co. (later called Ai) on land given by J.J. Rogers.
