Mrs. Eliza Sweeney Many of the people of Monroe and adjoin i ng counties knew and esteemed Mrs. Eliza Sweeney, wife o f R ev. Jas. Sweeney. It is our painful duty to announce t o th em her recent death, which occurred on the 7th of th e prese nt month at her home near Lindside, West Virginia . She die d of pulmonary disease, after having been an inv alid for ma ny years; during which time she bore her suffer ings wit h a courage and fortitude that were at once the wo nder an d admiration of her friends. Even in her last illne ss, i n spite of severe pain she wore a bright smile and ha d a ki nd, pleasant word for all who came near her bedside . She w as widely known for her bright intellect and beaut y of pers on, combined with many christian virtues and a th oughtful c ourtesy which ever won the love and admiration o f all who c ame into her presence.
She was a devoted wife; a loving mother, and a true frien d ; making her home cheerful and attractive to her family a n d the center of a hospitality so charming to her friend s th at it will live forever in the memory of the many wh o wer e favored to enjoy it.
The large crowd that gathered at her home on the 8th, in t h e face of a wintry storm, to follow her to her last resti n g place, showed how strong was the love and affection wi t h which she was held in her own community. We trust tha t t he pangs of bereavement may be softened in the hearts o f he r desolate husband and sons by the Hand that has so so rel y smitten them, while a blessing on her memory ascend s fro m many, many lips, with her pure, gentle spirit t o a happ y resting place.
