  During the Civil war the Williamson family was divided, some of its members supporting the cause, while others served on the Confederate side. John Williamson was a Federal judge during the conflict between the north and the south and while holding court in Memphis was captured by the forces of General Nathan Bedford Forrest but was soon afterward released.
