I, Alexander RHODES of the county of Jones, and State of North Carolina, being of sound mind and memory, but mindful of the uncertainty of my earthly existence, do make and declare this my last Will and Testament in many and form as follows.
First, That my executors herinafter named shall provide for my body a decent burial suitable to the Wishes of my friends, paying all funeral expenses, together with all just debts that may be found to be owing at the time of my decease.
Item 2, I give and bequeath and devise to my beloved wife Edith RHODES all of my property of every kind, both personal and real estate, that I may own after the payment of all just debts, to whosoever owing to her during her
natural life on widowhood, and after her death, or marriage then I give, bequeath and devise the same to my grandson Alexander KENAN, absolute forever, Providing, always be the said Alexander KENON, bountifully provides and cares for myself & wife during our natural lives, but should he in any particular foil in the above provision, then and in that case, after the death or marriage of my said wife, should she survive me, than all of the
said property both personal and real to be equally as near as can be, divided between my wife, our daughter Hannah Barbra and Harriet KENON &? Nicy JARMAN share and share alike, absolute forever, or to their heirs or assigns.
Lastly, I nominate and appoint my trusty friend Dr. R. A. WHITAKER as my lawful executor to execute this my last Will and Testament, and hereby evoking and declaring null and void all other Wills that may have been by me made. In Testimony Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 11th Day of May 1887.

A paper writing purporting to be the Last Will and Testament of Alexander RHODES deceased, is exhibited before me, the undersigned, Clerk of the Superior Court for said County, by R. A. WHITAKER, the exector therein mentioned, and the due execution thereof by the said Alexander RHODES is proves by the oath and examination of J. A. SMITH & P. M. PEARSALL the subscribing witnesses thereto: who, being duly sworn, doth depose and say, and each for himself deposeth and saith that he is a subscribing witness to the paper writing now shown him purporting to be the last will and testament of Alexander RHODES that the said Alexander RHODES, in the presence of this deponent, subscribed his name at the end of said paper writing, now shown as a foresaid, and which bears date of the 11th day of May 1887.
And the Deponent further saith, that the said Alexander RHODES the testator aforesaid, did at the time of subscribing his name as aforesaid, declare the said paper writing so subscribed by him and exhibited, to be his Last Will and Testament, and this deponent did thereupon subscribe his name at the end of said Will as an attesting witness thereto and at the request and in the presence of the said testator. And this deponent further saith, that at the said time when the said testator subscribed his name to the said last will as aforesaid, and at the time of deponent's subscribing his name as an attesting witness thereto, as aforesaid, the said Alexander RHODES was of sound mind and memory, of full age to execute a will, and was not under any restraint to the knowledge, information or belief of this deponent: and further these deponents say not.

In Re Estate of Alexander RHODES
Order for Probate of Will

A paper writing parpoting to be the last Will and Testament of Alexander RHODES, dec'd. is exhibited in open court for probate by R. A. WHITAKER, Executor therein named; and the due execution thereof by the said Alexander RHODES, dec'd is duly proven by the oath and examination of J. A. SMITH and P. M. PEARSALL subscribing witness thereto; and it is further shown to the satisfaction of the court by said witnesses that the said Alexander RHODES was, at the time of making said will, of sound mind and memory, of full age to execute a will and under no restraint to their knowledge, information or belief; IT is thereupon considered, adjudged and
decreed, that said proof is sufficient and according to law and that said paper writing is and contains the last will and testament of Alexander RHODES, dec'd. And on motion it is ordered that said Will be admitted to probate and recorded in the Book of Wills of Jones Co. and as such filed as provided by law in office of the clerk of Superior Court of said County. 
It is further ordered that said R. A. WHITAKER be allowed to qualify as executor as provided by law and enter upon the discharge of the duties imposed by said trust.

I, R. A. WHITAKER do solemnly swear that I believe this writing to be and contain the last Will and Testament of Alexander RHODES, deceased; and that I will well and truly executed the same by first paying his debts and then his legacies, as far as the said estate shall extend, or the law will charge me; and that I will well and faithfully execute the office of an executor agreeable to the trust and confidence reposed in me, and according to law, so help me God.
Sworn and subscribed before me, this 20th Day of June 1889.

In the matter of the Will of Alexander RHODES
Before: Thos. WHITAKER, CSC

R. A. WHITAKER being sworn doth say: that Alexander RHODES, late of said County, is dead, having first made and published his last Will and Testament; and that R. A. WHITAKER is the executor named therein.

Further, that the property of the said Alexander RHODES consisting of real and personal is worth about $500 so far as can be ascertained at the date of this application; and that Edith RHODES and Alexander KENON are the parties entitled under said will to the said property.
