James McBride was born in Ireland in 1777. He and his wife, Jane, immigrated to Canada (probably Toronto) sometime before the birth of their son, Robert, in 1813. This may be the same James McBride, born Armargh, Ireland who prays for land 1819. (Public Archives of Canada,...correspondence, Ottawa, Nov. 27, 1946). James and Robert McBride purchased land in Monroe County MI in March, June and August 1837. According to tradition, James with others, helped found the town of Caledonia (now Corunna) MI. James and Jane are counted on the 1850 census, living with their younger son, Thomas. (Nell McCoy notes and letters)
