- Monroe Skinner
Funeral services for Monroe Skinner of Florien were held at the
Mt. Carmel Baptist Church on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 3 p.m. The
Rev. Earl Marr, and the Rev. Virgil Taylor officiated. Burial was
in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery, with his nephews serving as
pallbearers.
Mr. Skinner died at 9:15 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Fraser
Hospital North, following a short illness. He was 86, and had
been a resident of Heritage Manor Nursing Home.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lola Skinner of Florien; two
sons, Arlon Skinner of Converse, and John Amos Skinner of
Shreveport; a daughter, Mrs. Lynelle Briley of Shreveport; one
brother, the Rev. Louis Skinner of Clarence; seven sisters, Mrs.
Cora Smith, Mrs. Exie Anderson, Mrs. Elta Wyatt, Mrs. Iberia
Mothershed, Mrs. Melva Curry, and Mrs. Bessie Weldon, all of
Florien, and Mrs. Pearlie Dupree of Mansfield; 8 grandchildren;
and 8 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A veteran of World War I, Mr. Skinner was a retired District
Engineer of the Highway Commission.
