The Thomas Newman and Martin Rufus Newman fami li es were believed to be one of the earliest settlers in n orthern Stone County an d Bradfield community according t o the abstract and which it states tha t Thomas Newman purc hased 80 acres (west of Shiloh Baptist Church) from Mar ti n Rufus Newman for the amount of $1.25 per acre and totalin g $100. The transa ction took place 24 May 1886 and the si gnature of Robt. McCulloch was on the do cument as Stone Co unty Register of Lands. - Later years, many people in t h e Bradfield community remember Nellie Zink, daughter of M artin Rufus Newman, wh o lived on the property up until he r death. She was in her late ninetie s at the time of he r death. Portions of the 'ole log house' were left standi n g as part of an outside dwelling in back of the present p roperty of Leafor d and Lucille Gold, who were so kind to s upply information and picture for thi s article. xxx"
