  Served in the Civil War. Joseph R. Rhodes served in County C, 48th Indiana, the same company that his brother George was in. According to his dicharge he enlisted Jan. 15, 1862 in Marshall County IN, at the age of 19 yrs. Also he was 5' 7 1/2" tall, had dark eyes, light hair and complexion, and stated he was born in Boone County IN (information from the Indiana State Archives). According to his obit. in the Bourbon Advance (Bourbon, Marshall County, IN) Apr. 18, 1906, Joseph R. Rhodes was apparently murdered.
