There is no will for a John Rhodes in the Loudoun Will Books. There is only
this, from my book “Loudoun Co Will Book Abstracts, Books A-Z, Dec 1757 –
Jun 1841”:

RHODES, John
Appraisal of 12 Oct 1805: Court order dated Jul 1805; farm and household
items, totaling $393.43. Appraisers: James GRADY, William BLEAKLY, Martin
OVERFIELD. Returned to court 14 Oct 1805. [G:397]

A John Rhodes is mentioned as a witness on several deeds in early Loudoun,
but there are no deeds for him as a purchaser or seller of property.

>From Abstracts of the List of Tithables 1758-1781 by the Sparcios:
Rhodes, John; Negro Sam – 2 tithables List taken by Har. Lane in 1779

Note this is the same year that Tholemiah Rhodes first appears on the lists.

>From the 1782-1810 Loudoun Co Personal Property Tax Lists:
1786 Rhodes, John
1787A Second Battalion Rhodes, John
1788C Second Battalion Rhodes, John
1789C Second Battalion Rhodes, John
1790A [Second Battalion] Rhodes, John
1791A Second Battalion Rhodes, John
1791B First Battalion Rhodes, John
1792A Second Battalion Rhodes, John
1792B First Battalion Rhodes, John
1793B Second Battalion Rhodes, John
1794B Second Battalion Rhodes, John
1795B Second Battalion Rhodes, John
1796B Cameron Parish (2nd Battalion) Rhodes, John

Note that Tholemiah Rhodes also had a son named John. The term Battalion was
for both militia and tax purposes and denoted a district. The second
Battalion or Cameron Parish was located in the southeast section of Loudoun.

There just aren’t many records for a John Rhodes in Loudoun.

Thanks Pat!
