Abraham Rhodes, b. 1810, Bedford Co., PA, of Rush County, IN, He was the son of Jacob and Catharine Rhodes.  His wife was Mary Stroup, who was also born in Pennsylvania. Her parents were George and Catharine Stroup. . . He is the father of twelve children, seven of whom are living. Those living are: Catharine, John, Henry S., Mary Ann, William F., Nancy J. and Sarah M. And those dead are: Eli, Levina, Elizabeth M., Eliza E. and a girl that died in infancy unnamed. . . .

A. C. Rhodes, of Barkada, Ark. The parents of the subject of this sketch, Joel A. and Elizabeth (Dantzler) Rhodes, were natives of South Carolina, and both were of German descent. The paternal grandfather was a soldier in the Revolutionary War.  A. C. Rhodes, was a veteran of the Civil War.
