James J. Rhodes was in 1833, in Preble County, OH, the youngest son of Samuel F. and Jane (Jones) Rhodes. Samuel F. Rhodes (1787-1860), was the son of Hezekiah Rhodes, a Revolutionary war veteran, and an immigrant from Germany. When James was ten years old when his parents moved to Wayne County, Ind.
