Subject: Re: [Rhodes-History] John W and Anna Eliza Rhodes

I've looked at this and added some things.  The Minnie Parsons marriage to Albert Baxter.  We tracked him to another Braxton Co. with his kids. I didn't have but did we find a death record for her?  I put in bold some of the things I added.  Thanks again Betty.  The card was really neat!

This one is definitely either Sam's son or a liar. Kids' ages are good
for a marriage in 1876, so I'm sure enough it's Mary Allen, too.

Dayton married Maude M Casto and they were living in Roane Co in 1930.

Subject: RE: [Rhodes-History] Re: Sam and Margaret Rhodes

First of all I want to say I just don't know. Who do you think are parents of my great grand mother md to John Rhodes b. 1826. My baby book says Louisa Litton and my dad or any siblings I can remember said that.
marrage record 1848 Margaret Anna Elvira Elizabreth Rhodes (Lockhart have Rockbridge Co. not Jackson)
1850 census Anne
1860 census Margaret
1870 census Ann Eliza
1880 census Ann Eliza
1900 census Anne E.
son Harrison's death record Anna L. Rhodes 1931
son Miles death certificate by his daughter Luda Liza

Genealogy in Rhodes book from the Lockhart has her parents as Samuel Rhodes b.between 1800&1802 s/o Christopher Peter Rhodes & Catherine Peeters and Margaret "Peggy" Rhodes d/o Christopher Rhodes Jr. & Rebecca Neece.

Do you see why I get so confused? In the 1850 census they are by Christopher Rhodes & Pedion John's parents. Next to them is Samuel & Margaret with Mathias etc. and another John.

Since I was told Litton all my life, could the Reece be a cover for having md a cousin. Several of John & Eliza's kids married Littons. They knew it was not the thing to do and were they wanting to cover it up?

Joann, do you have a copy of that book about Samuel and Margaret? Is she in it (Ann (e) Elizabeth Margaret Eliza etc.)? The 1900 census says they were md 52 years so it is the same wife. Any suggestion or help where to look would be so much appreciated. I would love to straighten this mess out.

Joyce

Sue Moore wrote:
Question where did everyone find Samuel Rhodes wife was Margaret Rhodes?
Years ago, and I am not sure where, back in the 70-80's we found his wife as
Margaret Reese or Reece. The source maybe -- Tetrick Office, which is now
gone, WVU WV Research Library, Sarah Coon might have found it. I know it
was from a very good source.

Tetrick office was a very good research back then because he had lot of
records and Salt Lake did copy part of them in the 50's, but not everything
was copy. The Tetrick donated to several places, the Harrison co. Genealogy
Society, the Harrison co. Historical Society, and WVU WV Research Library
(which they put in the attic until they ever can sort through them. Guy
Tetrick had records from many difference source, and they included Jackson
and Roane counties among them. 70 percent of the records were from the
1920's when he send out formed all over the central part of WV to be filled
out by families. People would fill them in and with very good information,
bible and other sources including old letters.

Sarah Coon is very good in getting sources and really worked hard on the
Rhodes.

WVU WV Research Library was a very good source for old records as well.
That is where I found Jane Harper Shaffer saying her grandmother(s) was
French and Indian in 1900 or 1910 record.

I didn't write source down back them especially if it wasn't my direct
family.

Subject: [Rhodes-History] Re: Sam and Margaret Rhodes

I had a hard time placing them in the right family too. And it
still may not be correct but I feel that Sam Rhodes (Son of George
Rhodes and Susanna Peters) and Margaret (Dau of Christopher Rhodes
and Catherine Peters)were in deed first cousins and married to each
other. The Lewis Irvin Rhodes Family Story is a book by his family,
he was the son of Archibald Rhodes and Delilah Rollins (my great-
grand parents). It says Delilah Rollins had 5 sisters, 3 of which
coincidentally also married Rhodes's. Melinda Rollins
married "Granny Peg's" (Margaret) brother, Jacob.(Jacob is the son
of Christopher Rhodes and Catherine Peters) Sarah Rollins married
Matthias Rhodes, brother of Samuel Rhodes. Rebecca Rollins married
Will(Wm Leeper) Rhodes, son of Christopher Rhodes and Patience
Tolley. Other sisters, Phoebe Rollins married Bud Miller, Lucinda
(Lou or Lousia) married A.M. Raines (mother of John Morgan)

I thought maybe Mary (1860 Jackson Co. Census) and Catherine (1850
Jackson Co. Census) are the same person. I have the other children
the same as you.

I think maybe the sun has fried my brain too (been in the 90's the
last few days here in Wild and Wonderful). I also had sixteen 5& 6
years olds in Vacation Bible School this week so I don't need to
borrow any more children!

Betty,
She also has written 2 1/4 N>W of Harmony, Roane Co WV. I think at the time some nice Rhodes took them out there in his 4 wheel drive. That's what I am thinking that the enlistment was for 3 yrs.

Isn't there a book about Sam & Margaret's children that doesn't have my elusive Ann Elizabeth "ELiza" Margaret in it as one of their children. I belives she was older and married and living next to them in the 1850 census but who knows for sure. I'll read the rest of what is here. Thanks gang for renewing my headache.

Subject: [Rhodes-History] Doctors and Daniels

And while we're on the subject of the DD's, I just noticed that I have
not only Daniel D but Doctor D as children of Benjamin. I have a
feeling that is one of those things that I meant to research and
forgot about. The problem I have is that I have the following birth
that I 'assumed' was for Doctor Daniel, son of Ben:

Rhodes, Benj., 1876, Doc. & Sarah Rhodes, Parchment, farmer

Maybe the Parchment part will give a clue to those of you who live
there or near there. There are several births listed for DD & Sarah E,
and one of theirs is a delayed birth record that shows the parents as
Doctor Dannial & Sarah Elizabeth (Richardson) Rhodes - this would be
the grandson of Ben, not the son. However, they married in 1883 -
several years after he was born, and Sarah had been married to
Archibald Phillips before that. Benj doesn't appear on the 1900 census
with them. Daniel Jr is living at home with his parents in 1880, and
Sarah was married to and living with her fist husband.

Who is this Benj???
