And one more thing, "Luvernom" lived next to David C in 1910 and in
1920 they were at #101 and #98. I know it doesn't prove a lot, but
it's a clue.

By the way, David married a third time, to Della Florence Bradley,
5/12/1919. She'd married (1) John D Cox, and (2) Dexter William
Riddle. There are birth records for her last 3 children.

Good grief, JoAnn, some days the only parents I'm sure of is that of
my own kids - and then only because they look so much like us! :)

So no, I'm not sure. I can only say that there is the birth record for
Lewis on the same day that Lew Vernon was born. As for the 1900
census, I have 2 observations. One is that they were off by a year a
lot of the time - I think the census taker calculated the year or age,
at least part of the time, and of course, most of them weren't nearly
as date conscious as we are, anyhow. There are just too many for whom
we have a birth record that doesn't agree with the 1900 census for me
to take it as absolute proof. Another thing, Maggie was probably the
one giving the info to the census taker and she was a stepmother. If a
birth mother can forget when her own kid was born, you're gonna expect
a stepmom to?

And I'd go out on a limb and say that Clara V was the daughter of
David and Rebecca. The birth record shows she was born in 1880 to DC
and Rebecca - and I haven't found another couple with those names.
There are two more kids - Jno T Rhodes born 11/1882 to David C &
Rebecca, and William in 1877 to David & Rebecca.

So I believe that Lewis was the son of David C and Rebecca and since
the birthdate is the same as for Lew Vernon, I make an assumption that
he is the same person, but it could be that there were two boys born
on the same day and given similar names. Stranger things have
happened. It would, of course, be the first time I was ever wrong
about anything. (Quit laughing so darn hard!! - You're the one who
asked me if I am 'sure'!)

I have Clara V married to Frederick H Williams, son of William H
Williams and Dorcus Rhodes. I don't have marriages for John or
William, and I have no census notes for them, other than Wm in 1880.

Maudie/Mandie does look like the daughter of John L - but there was an
Amanda born to Jesse Parsons in Oct 1891. I don't see that family
after 1900, so it's probably not her - remember I don't trust those
census dates. It's really hard to tell if her name is Mandie or Maudie
in these censuses. That 3rd letter is never very distinct.

Sadie has a birth record that shows her parents are Vernon Lue and
Maudie (Parsons) Rhodes, while Tressie's shows LV and Maude, and and
Georgia's shows LV and Mandie. How DID those people expect us to get
any of it right?

Betty,
Are you sure that Lew Vernon Rhodes is the son of David Crockitt
Rhodes and Rebecca Johnson. We discussed this on the MyFamily site
and never did come to the conclusion who's son he was.
The 1880 JC Census has
David C. Rhodes 26
Rebecca A. 22
William O. 2

1900 JC Census Wash Dist.141-141
David Rhodes 5/1860 40 6
Maggie 10/1859 40 6 0-0
Blank 10/1887 12 (Is this Lew Vernon Rhodes?)
There is a Clara V. Rhodes b.1880 D.C. Rhodes & Rebecca Rhodes. Is
she the dau of David? Does he have other children?

Jackson Co Birth Records show
Rhodes, Lewis, 9/7/1886, DC & RA Rhodes, Jackson Co, farmer

I believe that is David Crockett Rhodes and Rebecca A Johnson, at
least that's who I have him attached to. Now - who are her parents?

I am looking for parents for Lew Vernon Rhodes. He was born 7 Sept 1886,
Ripley WV.
He married Maudie Parsons,(sometimes called Mandy sometimes Amanda)
she was born 1 Oct 1890, They were married 4 Jan 1907.
Children were
Ada Elizabeth, Sadie, Tressie, Georgia, Mary Pauline, Clyde Oral,
Martha and Lorena Virginia.
Thanks.

A typo again. I need to proof read better. I put the correct year below she was b. 1871.

That doesn't help. Can't be the same family. NOthing in the 1920 or 1930.

Margaret Ely b. 4/26/1871 is close. There could be another Margaret b. about this time. Anything is possible with the Rhodes.
