1-02-03-03 Mary Catherine Rhodes Abt 1828-1830 Rockbridge Co. VA
9/10/1846 Jackson co. VA Robert Hughes Census 1850,1860
On the 1860 Jackson Co. Census #959-904 Mary Rhodes age 32 is at home
with George A. 21, Jacob 19, John W. 15. These are the children of
Sam and Margaret Rhodes. I don't think this Mary Rhodes married
Robert Hughes, since they married in 1846. Samuel age 60 is at #980-
923 George 21, Jacob 19, (John)Wesley 16. So they were counted twice
on the 1860 census, which happened alot back then. They took a long
time to count the census (door-to-door) and people would go visit and
stay weeks with other family members.
So is this Mary, Sam and Margaret daughter?
I also have Catherine with no more info on her.
Was this just one person, Mary Catherine or two?

Get those thinking caps out again.
Joseph and Sarah Starcher Rhodes had a daughter named Charity. She was
7 in 1850 and 16 in 1860 and gone in 1870.
In 1870, Daniel McNear appears with a wife named Charity. Someone
wrote to me the other day for a lookup, and stated that this Charity
was a Rhodes, and they'd been told she was d/o Joseph and Sarah. I
can't find a marriage record for them, so I can't verify that she was
a Rhodes.
Does anyone have any more info on them??

Thanks. It must be Bertrice and there is either a typo or the person
who read the cemetery made a mistake.
Yes, there are a few others in this cemetery. I'm slowly working my
way through the book. Anyone in particular you're looking for?
Oh, the book says Evans Cemetery is located "on waters of Wash Run
about 1/2 mile north of village of Gay".

In looking through the cemetery book, I find these people that I
cannot identify. Can anyone?
Falling Water Cemetery
Rhodes, Clair, April 27, 1912 - May 23, 1973
Rhodes, Della B Q, b Nov 26, 1912 -
There is no indication whether this is a double stone so I don't know
if it is husband and wife or two separate stones.

According to the Jackson Co Cemeteries book published by the JCHS,
there is a stone for Baby Rhodes with no dates in the Evans Cemetery.
There is a note written in, as if someone thought it was them: (Twins
* 16 Mar 1897 +) F/F
Also, these that I can't identify:
Junior Rhodes, April 23, 1925 - June 4, 1926
Kathleen J Rhodes, 1940-1940
And, between Willie G, 1899-1968, and Charles E, 1894-1947, there is
Beatrice, 1900- , who I suppose is the wife of one of them. I am also
assuming these are the sons of Gordon Mead since they are listed after
him.

Here's her obit. It gives an idea of about when they died.
Mrs. Ollie KERWOOD, daughter of of Mr. and Mrs. D. D. RHODES, was born
near Ripley, January 27, 1863. She was married in 1887 to J. R.
KERWOOD. To them was born a son, Clyde, who departed this life January
31, 1912. (Mountaineer, 15 Nov 1912)

Subject: [Rhodes-History] John RHODES obituary
Mr. John RHODES At one o'clock Sunday afternoon Mr. John RHODES died
of tuberculosis at his home near Huntington, WV. At midnight that
night, Mrs. Ollie (RHODES) KERWOOD, wife of Mr. J. R. KERWOOD, and a
cousin of Mr. RHODES, passed away, a victim of the same disease. Mr.
RHODES was a former resident of this county and was an industrious and
prosperous farmer. He moved to Cabell County about 18 months ago.
Since that time his health has gradually failed. He was a son of
Benjamin RHODES, deceased. Mrs. KERWOOD lingered for several months.
Her demise was perhaps hastened by close confinement in nursing her
son, Clyde KERWOOD, who was also a victim of the white plague. Mrs.
Ollie KERWOOD, daughter of of Mr. and Mrs. D. D. RHODES, was born near
Ripley, January 27, 1863.

Subject: [Rhodes-History] George Luther Rhodes
My great grand father's name was George Luther Rhodes. His father was
George W. Rhodes, brother to Samuel Rhodes who married Druzilla
LaMasters. George Luther married his first cousin Nancy Elmore Rhodes,
daughter of Samuel & Druzilla. My problem is: I have no sibling names
for George Luther, and I don't think he was an only child. Does anyone
have George W. married to Virginia Harrison in their tree listed?
