George signed the marriage bond for Abraham in Rockbridge for the one
01-02-02. The only thing my cousin could come up with George must have had
a Abraham and a Abram. Her husband line always call him by the Abram or Abe
instead of Abraham. Another one of the many Rhodes puzzles. I will put the
other one on the database today.

This Benjamin RHODES is emumerated with the family of Andrew & Sally
THORNTON and children John, Emily & Jerushahle(?) His mother is of
foreign birth. I've never been able to fit him in my line with David
R.
RHODES & Nancy E. SINCLAIR. He's living in the neighborhood of two
people that married into David's family. John T. RHODES, son of David
& Nancy, married Martha STAGGS. Martha is 2 doors down from Benjamin
RHODES with Nancy STAGS, Margaret MURPHY, Margaret & Josephus HARRISON
and Lilly MURPHY. I believe Nancy is Martha's mother as there is a
Nancy STAGGS buried near Martha & John RHODES. The other person that
married into David's family is George A. SWAN, who married a daughter
of William Henry RHODES & Martha Elizabeth WATSON. Edith "Lena"
RHODES married George A. Swan, son of Cyrus & Mary SWAN in 1892.
I wish I could figure out who this Benjamin RHODES is. I can't find
him on the 1850 or 1860 census. He is on the 1870 census in Ohio,
Defiance County, Hicksville Township on page 31/109.

I haven't add the proof yet, but will in time. This line is from NY into
Jackson co. VA. Maybe others have more information to add also.

Help! I have your name and e-mail from Rootsweb as available to help with
questions about Rhodes Surname in Jackson County WV.
I am trying to find biographical information on Dr. Fred L. Rhodes who was
born abt. 1890 in Cottageville (Jackson County) to Daniel W. and Sally J.
Rhodes. He died in 1939 in Columbus, OH. I have his obit from 11 Oct 1939
from the Columbus Dispatch. The text follows:
"Dr. Fred Lawwill Rhodes of Massillon, Ohio, at White Cross Hospital,
Tuesday morning, age 49. Survived by wife, mary, Mother, Mrs. Sallie Rhodes
of Cottageville, W. Va., sister, Sue I burger of Lansing, Michigan; 2
brothers, David W. Rhodes of Cottageville, and John H.
Rhodes of Ripley, W. Va. Body resting at Shaw-Davis Funeral Home, where
services will be held Thursday at 2pm. Internment Union Cemetery."
Rhodes was a physician here in Massillon, OH between 1920 and 1938,
most of those years on staff at the State mental hospital. In 1934,
Dr. Rhodes donated a skeleton to the Massillon Museum. It has scared and
delighted children visiting the museum ever since. But that's all we know
about Dr. Rhodes.
We would particularly like to know where he attended medical school.
If we can find living relatives, perhaps we could get a picture of Dr.
Rhodes to display at the Museum along with his donation.
I have met with a helpful attitude at the State (OH) Medical Board, but so
far they've been unable to find record of his medical license.
But we've not given up hope.
A librarian at Parkersburg sent me the pages from the book "Jackson County
Past and Present" so do not need that resource. (There was a Fred Rhodes of
exactly the same age in Parkersburg in the 1910 Census which led us on a
brief wild-goose-chase, but it appears to be the wrong Fred, unless he was a
cabinetmaker before going to medical school?)
I also have been talking to an interested librarian at the Jackson County
Public Library, but with their budget and staffing problems she says it
might take months to have time to do much research.
So I throw myself on the graces of you in the genealogy community.
Any leads you provide will be much appreciated! Thanks in advance,
Sherie Brown

Thank you for your reply, JoAnn. I don't know about the Zechariah
RHODES family you mention. Do you know if Zechariah had any brothers?
My David R. RHODES was born in 1822. I haven't found a definite
connection to the Jackson County RHODES yet. There are just too many
RHODES families living in that area!

I've been looking for George Alexander RHODES/RHOADES on the 1860
census. He is with David & Nancy RHODES in 1850, 38th District, Mason
County, Virginia. In 1870 George is with his first wife, Mary Ann
BATES in Clendenin Township, Mason County, West Virginia. I believe
that George is the son of David R. RHODES & Nancy E. SINCLAIR.
George's death certificate lists father as unknown and mother as Nancy
STEPHEN(S). Would like to know if there was a Nancy STEPHENS
"involved". I haven't found one yet.
David & Nancy RHODES are found on the 1860 census in Paulding County,
Ohio minus son, George. James and John are the only two sons that are
on the 1860 census withe David & Nancy. He's only 4 years old in
1850. Who was he with in 1860 at age 14?
Been trying to get George's Civil Was pension file. Haven't had any
luck yet. Does anyone on the list have it? Or know how I can get a
copy? The National Archives gave me another address to write to and
it came back address unknown.
