I don't know about this, Christopher and Rebecca Neese married
4/20/1801. Their dau Lorina was born 1820 that would make
Christopher very old, 96.

Yes, I thought about looking where I got the name Sarah Elizabeth,
in somethings I have seen "Betsey" for a nickname instead of "Sukey".
Sue said this was a German custom to name some of the daughters the
same name and use their middle name.

I have dropped the Christian, dropped the Peter from Christopher (m)
Catherine Peters, dropped the Christopher from George (m) Susannah
Peters and I am sure to use their wifes name with them to keep from
getting so confused. Lots of Samuels, Benjamins, Jacobs too!!

I am looking for the parents of David Rhoades [born about 1805 in PA
according to the 1850 census] and when and where he was married.
I know he was married at least twice, once to Rachel Woodruff abt
1825 -- actual date and location unknown and second to Sarah Ann Banks March
06, 1853, Meigs Co., Ohio.
Rachel was married before she married David. Rachel married Jacob Starcher
February 11, 1823 Mason Co. WV he died May 25, 1825.
Rachel was born in Greene Co. PA but her father moved to Mason Co. WV by
1812 as they are listed on the 1812 tax list. They lived to Mason Co. until
the move to Meigs Co. by the 1830 census.
Rachel died January 05, 1850 and is buried next to her mother in Bicknell
Cemetery in Lebanon Twp. along the Ohio River near Ravenswood WV. I also
believe her father is in the same cemetery although no tombstone is
standing.
Rachel and David had 7 children according to the 1850 census Sarah Benjamin
Jincy Frances Dorothy Ann Zachariah Melinda C.
That puts Rachel in Mason Co about the time of her marriage to David but I
cannot find a listing for them in Mason Co.
If anyone can help identify the parents of David I would greatly appreciate
the help. I will be happy to share the information I do have with those
interested.

Was the Christopher 1724 the one that married Rebecca Neese?
Who were their children?
Christopher the father of the Sarah that married James Bailey. If it
was Christopher and Catherine Peters, then Sarah Elizabeth "Sukey"
1811 must have been just Elizabeth (married Archibald Thomas.)That
Christopher seems the most likely candidate. Although there has been
instances where the children in families had the same first name and
went by the middle names.
Sure wish they had been more creative in their naming practices.
I have the following Christophers
*Christopher Christian 1724
*Christopher Peter 1772 (Md Catherine Peters son of Christopher Christian)
*Christopher J 1793 (Md Patience Tolley son of George Christopher)
*George Christopher 1760 (Md Susannah Peters, son of Christopher
Christian)
*Philip Christopher (son of Christopher and Patience
*Christopher R (son of Benjamin and Nancy Golden)
If there are more I missed them.

1. Marriage bond proves Sarah dau of Christopher (who could write)---does
not prove mother.
2. Throughout the some 90 years of census relating to her--age was
consistantly late 1814/early 1815.
3. Botetourt marriage record proves resident of Botetourt since Bond
required to be filed in county of bride residence.
4. Christopher has two girls of this age in the house for 1830 census. Is
there any proof that one is not her? Lots of circumstantial that she is.

There is a John McMullen in Roane Co in 1860. He's 14 and the son of
Matthew and Sarah. Matthew was born in Ireland, Sarah in VA. It
doesn't explain this, but at least there was someone with that name,
there at that time.

Hi Karen,
Welcome to the Rhodes site, do you think maybe your Rhodes family is
connected to Zechariah Rhodes? His son was Samuel Rhodes (m)Jane ?
Their children were: David H. Rhodes (b)1824(m) Samantha Pringle
Descendants say that she was full blooded Indian, Samuel Rhodes (m)
Margaret, John Rhodes(m)Delilah, Mary Rhodes, Priscilla Rhodes(m)
Samuel Simson, Wilson Rhodes, Benjamin Rhodes (m) Lucretia
LeMasters, William Lee Rhodes, James W. Rhodes (m)Lydia Simpson.
This group of Rhodes I call the Mason Co. Rhodes. David and
Samantha lived in the Cologne Dist of Mason Co. 1870 Census #42-42

Could Mullin be the middle name and Rhodes wasn't put because it was obvious
(written by Samuel & Parthenia names? The earlier death notices seemed to have
just their father and not their mother's name unless the father was deceased.
I'm sure there are exceptions.

I don't have any proof on the these children of Samuel and his 1st wife.
David and Louise were in my notes for Samuel as maybe children. Samuel was
a lot older than Parthenia when they married so this is just guessing that
he may have been married before. I don't have a marriage book for Botetourt

No one said the folks recording at the courthouse were perfect. Could
John McMullen have been a doctor? I wouldn't be surprised to find
something like this in Jackson Co, but I didn't think Roane's death
records were so bad.
I dug out my unidentified Rhodes data and found these. I was a little
surprised to find this in Mason Co since the story is that the Rhodes
brothers came to the Jackson Co area in the mid-30's. This could be
Samuel's first wife and family. Or not. It could be a totally
unrelated branch but neither Ben nor Sam is in Rockbridge or Botetourt
in 1820.
Of course, Ben should have had 3 males 0-10, but it could have been
easily mis-marked.

You've finally mentioned my RHODES line and I thought I'd jump in.
David R. RHODES is my great great grandfather. I sure wish I could tell
you who his parents were. I have David Rhodes and Nancy Sinclair
married on 26 January 1843 in Jackson County. Did one of us mis-read
the date?
His birth date (calculated from age & date on tombstone) is 30 July
1822. He died on 22 June 1900. He is buried at Spindler-Hinsch
Cemetery in Mark Twp, Defiance Co, Ohio with his wife, Nancy. Nancy was
born (calculated from tombstone) 17 April 1825 in Virginia and died 24
August 1895. I don't have proof yet, but I believe that Hugh St. Clair
was Nancy's father. I haven't been able to find any death record for
David or Nancy in Defiance, Williams or Paulding County, Ohio.
On the 1880 U.S. Census David states that his father is from
Pennsylvania and his mother is from Maryland. On the 1900 U.S. Census
he lists them both from New York. I have not been able to find any
siblings or the parents of David. I have corresponded with several
descendants who have heard that there is an Indian blood-line, but no
one knows who or what tribe.
Here's a groupsheet for David & Nancy Rhodes. Sure would like to fill
in those blanks for parents. Will gladly share what I have on this
line. This is just the short version. Please let me know if you see
any errors or can make any additions.
