I'm sorry, Joyce, I didn't make myself clear. I meant that Wm B, son of Peter and Letha, had a daughter, Mary, born in 1879.

I've been looking in the censuses for Alberts. in 1880, there were 3 in Jackson and one in Roane Co. Albert A, son of James C M and Anne, Albert B, son of John W and Ann, and Albert who was living with Charles Shinn and listed as 'other' in Jackson and Albert W, son of John W and Lucinda in Roane. I suspect the 3rd one in Jackson was a duplicate of either A or B. There are only 2 in 1870, Albert A and Albert W, but B was listed as Baxter. They were born within 2 years of each other, with Albert Baxter being the oldest by 3 months. Albert A was 2 years younger. It looks like Albert Baxter was always listed as Albert B or simply Baxter.

I found Albert A and Sarah in 1900:

Albert M is at home in 1880, but not with his parents in 1900. In 1900, I find an Albert M Rhodes, b 7/1859 in Virginia, in Rock Island Co, ILL. He's a carpenter and listed as 'partner', married 11 years but there's no wife listed. He's at the top of the page, and the page before is smeared and black and impossible for me to read, so I can't tell who his partner/s are, but the HOH is from Ohio, and is a wheelwright.

I went back and checked 1880 again, and the only Alberts are all in Jackson and Roane counties - none in VA. Considering the birthdate matches, I'd say this is the son of John and Lucinda.

Since I can't find any other Rhodes male with a name starting with an A, I am going to assume that Baxter was the man who married Minnie Parsons in 1893. She has to be the daughter of Joel and Emma Parsons who were living in Mason Co in 1880.

Anyone got any better idea?

Oh, Betty,

I have the Albert Rhodes md to Sarah Caroline Cobb d/o John Ashley Cobb & Mary Elizabeth Holcomb. I don't have parents for that Albert Rhodes.

Miles Herbert and Teresa Consae "Tessie" Rhodes Tolley are John W. & Ann Elizabeth "Eliza" Rhodes children and their Albert Baxter's siblings. How do we figure out who the other two Albert go with? It is enough to drive you nuts.

Peter married Elizabeth Wilson in 1869 so Letha must have passed away by then. Are you sure of the 1879 b. date for Mary C.

Oh Betty,

I'm confusing my Raines. Here is the obit.

Ava L. Rhodes Raines
Ava L. Rhodes Raines 96, of Kenna was called home to be with the Lord Dec. 9, 2001 at Jackson General Hospital, Ripley. She was born February 23, 1905 at Belgrove, a daughter of the late Matt and Ora Dell Parsons Rhodes. She was a housewife and a member of the Warren Chapel United Methodist Church. She loved to quilt with the lades aide at the church.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Raines, a daughter, Gay Lucille Raines; two brothers Delbert and Denver Rhodes; and two sister Alma Whited and Amy Stine.
She is survied by her sons, Donald Raines of Kenna, Lee Raines of Sissonville; daughter Carol McKemy of Kenna, Loraine Stogdon of South Charleston; brother Densil Rhodes of Ripley; sister, Ima Anderson, Geraldine Willard both of Charleston, Gladys Jones of Gandeeville, Iva Critchfield of Belgrove; eight grandchildren, twenty-one greatgrandchildren; and two great great grandaughters.
Service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12 at Parson-Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley with ReV. Larry R. Jones Officiating. Burial will be at the Fairplain Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Tueday at the funeral home.

The Alma Rhodes that married Ralph Raines (William Ralph but must have gone by his middle name to drive us nuts) was the daughter of Emmit Rhodes & Rebecca Hawkins. I see I don't have parents for Emmit. I see one married a Anderson :). She married Ralph at the Harmony Baptist Church. She is with Emmet & Rebecca's 11 children in the 1910 Roane Co Censu WCP Harper District.

Yes, Joyce, I found his birth record in Roane Co. He seems to have been born in Spencer. All the others except Ava and Geraldine were recorded in Jackson Co, and I could have missed them if they were recorded under a different name.
