Anthony Rhodes was born October 21, 1761 in Warwick, Rhode Island. He first enlisted in October 1777, in Captain Rice's Company, Colonel Cornwall's Rhode Island Regiment Anthony Rhodes enlisted again March 16, 1778. While a resident of Voluntown, Connecticut, he enlisted in August 1780, Captains Gallup's and Latham's Companies, of Colonel Ledyard's Connecticut Regiment. He also served one month on an alarm in 1781, as private in the Connecticut troops. See: Pension of Anthony Rhodes S.14285.

Benjamin Rhodes served in the company of Light horse raised in Guilford Co, NC, under command by Capt. Asa BRASHERS²

Bristol Rhodes was born in 1755 at Cranston Rhode Island, an African-American slave to Capt. William Rhodes.  He lived in Cranston until 29 May 1778, when he enlisted in a Rhode Island’s Continental Regiment, and gained his freedom in the process.  Bristol served nearly five years, seeing action in Rhode Island, New Jersey, New York, and Virginia. During the siege of Yorktown, he was badly wounded from a cannon shot in which he lost both his left leg and left hand.  Bristol spent nearly a year in the hospital where on 1 September 1782, he was discharged by the Commander and Chief General George Washington.  Later that September, a board of officers awarded him with an honorary badge for “long and faithful service.”  In time, Bristol would be rewarded with a pension for life.  He moved from Cranston to Providence Rhode Island 1789. Bristol Rhodes, Private age 31, on Feb. 10, 1785 was granted a pension of $5.00 a month.  He was in the Rhode Island regiment commanded by Col. Jeremiah Olney. Loss of the left leg and left hand by a cannon shot in the memorable siege of Yorktown, in Virginia, in October, 1781.

Joseph Read's regiment and again in Sept. 1776 in a battalion stationed at Hull. He went to Edgar county, Illinois and died there; is buried in the Ogden cemetery  in Edgar County, Illinois..."Mass. in the Revolution. He served as Pvt. in 1st RI Regt.1, Capt. Dexter's company, Col. Greene's regiment. See: pension of Richard Rhodes, case no. W.22060. His pension on list his wife as Catherine.

Sylvester Rhodes, sailing-master of the privateer from R.I. the Chance.  He and the crew of the Chance where taken prisoners in May of 1782 and held onboard the prison ship the Jersey. This gentleman was born at Warwick, R. I., November 21, 1745. He married Mary Aborn, youngest sister of Captain Daniel Aborn, and entered the service of his country, in the early part of the war, sometimes on land, and sometimes as a seaman. He was with Commodore Whipple on his first cruise, and as prize-master carried into Boston the first prize captured by that officer. He also served in a Rhode Island regiment. When the crew of the Jersey was exchanged and he was not among the number, his brother-in-law, Captain Aborn, endeavored to obtain his release, but, as he had been an officer in the army as well as on the privateer, the British refused to release him as a seaman. His father, however, through the influence of some prominent Tories with whom he was connected, finally secured his parole, and Captain Aborn went to New York to bring him home. But it was too late. He had become greatly enfeebled by disease, and died on board the cartel, while on her passage through the Sound, on the 3rd of November, 1782, leaving a widow and five children. Zachariah Rhodes, age 85, Revolutionary War Pensioner, 1840 MA Census of Pensioners, in the City of Boston-11th ward, Suffolk CO. MA.

Zebulon Rhodes was born at Sharon, in Norfolk Co., Mass. Feb. 18 1760. He resided at Norfolk Co., Mass., when in June 1776 he enlisted as a Pvt. under Capt. A. Guild, and Col. Whiting. Served later as Drummer, and then a Fifer in Poor's Regt. of MA Mil. Zebulon died Sept. 7 1838. See: Pension of summery of Zebulon Rhodes case no. R. 8731.
