      military: I certify that the within named, D. S. Rhodes, (sp. Rhoads) Private of Captain W. S. Harrington's Company F of the 3 Batt, Mississippi State Troops, born in Tuscaloosa County in the state of Alabama, aged thirty-eight years, 6 feet 0 inches high, fair complexion, hazle eyes, auburn hair, and by occupataion a farmer, was enlisted by Captain Harrington at Houston, Mississippi on the 9th day of August, 1862, to serve indefinate years and is now entitled to a discharge by reason of him being discharged 17 July 1863.

F, 3rd Batt, Mississippi State Troops, inserviceof the CSA, being a Prisoner of War, in the hands of the United StatesForces, in virtue of the capitulation of the City of Vicksburg and its garrison, by Lieut. Gen. John C. Pemberton, CSA, Commanding, on the 4th day of July, 1863, do in pursuance of the terms of said capitulation, give this my solemm parole underoath-

      military: That I will not take up arms again against the United States, nor serve in any military police, or constabulary force in any Fort, Garrision, or field work, held by the Confederate States of America, against the United States of America, nor as guard of prisons, depots or stores, nor discharge any duties usually performed by Officers or soldiers, against the United States of America, until duly exchanged by the proper authorities.
